Work of the Week and JELMA!

What a week! Have you ever had such a crazy week that you start an email on Sunday to go out Monday and don't send it until Friday? Well… HAPPY FRIDAY! I am still enjoying the challenges in my new job and still getting time in the studio, so I call it a win across the board, but it is undeniably a lot.

Sunrise at Water’s Edge, 2022

SUNRISE AT WATER'S EDGE is one of two pieces that will be on view in the upcoming exhibition at the James E. Lewis Museum. (Details below.) This painting has been living its best life in my living room since last year. I am so drawn in by this piece. This is another work from the Water Project series, and unlike the piece I shared last week, which feels frenetic and filled with my own anxiety, this piece calms and grounds me. It seems to have its own story that I am only on the edge of learning. While still abstracted, it veers much closer to a landscape than a lot of my more recent work, and I feel good about that. I don't know how much more landscape we will see in the series, but this one was fun to do.

art wanderings

ART WANDERINGS: Our Black Artists of DC exhibition at the James E. Lewis Museum officially opens this coming Thursday, July 22, 2023 and runs from June 22 - December 8, 2023.

We will have an opening reception on Saturday, July 1, 2023, from 12 - 4 P.M. I plan to be there around 2 P.M. This will be a great, diverse exhibition showcasing the varied styles and incredible skill and vision of the members of the Black Artists of DC. I am very excited to show with them. If you attend, be sure to send pictures I can include in the newsletter/social media!

I recommend coming to the reception. Otherwise, JELMA is open Tuesday - Friday 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. JELMA is located at 2201 Argonne Dr, Baltimore, MD 21218. Free Parking is available behind the Murphy Fine Arts Center in Lot Y.
